Step 1
Charging Current Starts
When the source is connected, electrons move in the external wire and charging current flows for a short time.
Circuit Element Explanation
A capacitor stores energy between two plates and does not like sudden voltage changes.
Back to Circuit ElementsQ = CV
A capacitor stores voltage energy and resists sudden voltage changes.
Show charge accumulating on opposite plates while current fades after charging and the electric field glow builds between the plates.
Step 1
When the source is connected, electrons move in the external wire and charging current flows for a short time.
Step 2
Opposite charges accumulate on the two capacitor plates. Charge does not cross the insulating gap.
Step 3
As charge increases, the electric field between the plates becomes stronger and energy is stored.
Step 4
After charging, the capacitor behaves like an open circuit for DC, so current fades to zero.
